About
About Me
I’m James, a Brazilian living in France. I hold a PhD in Computer Science from IMT Atlantique and currently work as a Research Engineer at CEA, the French national organization for atomic and alternative energy research. Before that, I graduated in Brazil at UNESP, where I first learned to love (and sometimes hate) computers and computer science.
I’ve been working with tech for more than 10 years in different roles, always curious about how things work and how they shape our lives. I usually say I was a researcher turned web developer and then turned back into a researcher. My career has always been driven by a strong investigative instinct toward the subjects I care about. Technology is one of them, but it’s far from being the only one.
Today, my research focuses on using AI (mainly Generative AI, but not exclusively) to help software and systems engineers deal with the growing complexity of building computer systems for fun and profit.
Outside of tech, I’m a long-time comic book reader and collector. Among all the pop culture topics I enjoy, this is probably the one I like talking about the most.
I created this personal site/blog to have my own corner on the web. It’s a long-term experiment where I plan to share ideas, give back to the community that taught me so much, and hopefully help a few peers along the way.
If you’d like to get in touch, feel free to send me a message. I’m not very active on social media anymore, but I’m usually reachable by e-mail 😊.
About the Blog
This site works as my portfolio and visit card, but I also try to keep a running blog where I share thoughts, experiments, curiosities, occasional trash content, opinions, recommendations, and whatever else comes to mind.
After years in academia and writing technical documentation and code, it feels healthy to have a freer space. Here, I can write about tech (of course), but also about other topics without academic templates or formal constraints.
If you follow the blog, you can expect posts about my work (my own papers, papers I’m reading, toy projects), muslings on the tech industry and academic life, study notes, and sometimes completely different subjects I happen to be thinking about.
If you find an error (or just want to warmly agree with me), I’m always open to hearing from you.

On my use of LLMs
As a researcher in this area, I actively use LLMs (and other AI models) for different tasks, including writing and coding. On this site, their use is mostly limited to grammar and orthographic review. Whenever a model is used to generate content, it will be clearly stated.
